Mukteshwar (2315m or 7500 ft.), is situated in mountains of Nainital district. The hilltop perch with the most stunning view of the 340 km range of Great Himalaya. From here, the sun can be seen rising over the peaks in Nepal and setting over the far end of an uncluttered panorama. The hamlet's name Mukteshwar derives from two Sanskrit words: 'mukti' meaning eternal life and 'ishwar' another term for god, and refers to an ancient legend in which a demon battles with Shiva, and though the demon is defeated, he attains immortality.

  Mukteshwar Dham : Gets its name from a 350 year old temple of Shiva Temple, situated atop the highest point in the town, on the IVRI campus. It holds a big mela on the Shivratri festival.

  Chauli ki Jaali : is a range of over hanging cliffs close to the Shiva temple. It is used for rock climbing for rock climbing and rappelling, with an excellent view of the valleys below.

  PWD Guest House : Provides the most panoramic view of entire Himalayan range. Jim Corbett stayed here for long stretches and killed one of the most infamous man eater tigress here.

  Bhulmaria Forest : Is located inside the dense IVRI controlled forest. Apparently, Jim Corbett shot the infamous Man eater at this spot.

  Bhalu Gaad Waterfalls : Is 60 feet high secluded and pristine waterfall. It has natural clear water pools, ideal for day picnics, valley crossing, cliff jumping & bird watching.

  Vishnu Temple / Dol Ashram : Are important religious venues in the vicinity of Mukteshwar surrounded by beautiful deodar forests.

  Managher Trek : Is an off beat trek in Fir Forest that also has small waterfall as a pleasant surprise.

  Kapileshwar Temple : Is an ancient Shiva temple, constructed by Katyuri kings around 8th -10th century. This secluded temple is situated on the confluence of Kumiya and Sakuni rivers.

  Devsthal : Is India's biggest optical site at an altitude of 2450 meters. Currently, it has 130 cms functional optical telescope. The site is managed by ARISE.

  The View of Himalayas : Magnificent view of Himalaya is a great tourist attraction in Mukteshwar as it affords a magical view of the Himalayas.
